Mayor Manny Diaz Celebrates National Mentoring Month By Recruiting Mentors For Miami’s Schools

 

January 13, 2005 - (Miami, FL) - January is National Mentoring Month. To recognize this important designation, City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz will host a luncheon for City of Miami employees on Friday, January 14^th from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Miami Riverside Center.

 

The purpose of the luncheon is to inform employees and the greater public about the Mayor’s Mentoring Initiative and to recruit individuals as mentors for Miami’s school children.

 

The event is a joint initiative planned by the City of Miami Mayor’s Office and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Currently, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the City of Miami are focused on recruiting mentors for 11 schools within the city. Current City Mentors will also be present to speak about their experiences as mentors. 

 

Members of the media are welcome to attend and encouraged to promote the Mayor’s Mentoring Initiative.
