MAYOR MANNY DIAZ AND CITY COMMISSIONERS LAUNCH OFFICE DEPOT “BACKPACK DONATION DAY”

 

August 1, 2004 - (Miami, FL) - This Tuesday morning, August 3^rd, 2004, at 11:00 am, Office Depot’s Retail Store at 2690 Coral Way in Miami will kick off “Office Depot Backpack Donation Day.”  Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Commissioner Angel Gonzalez and Commissioner Joe Sanchez will receive backpacks on behalf of Miami community agencies.  Representatives from other South Florida agencies will also be on hand to receive free backpacks.

 

In 2001, Office Depot began a program to provide backpacks to underprivileged children all over the nation through non-profit agencies and elementary schools. This year, over 200,000 will be distributed throughout North America. Miami students in need will receive backpacks filled with school supplies, book covers, book marks, a brochure encouraging them to utilize the public library, a poster and a library card application, which supports Office Depot’s partnerships with Keep America Beautiful and the American Library Association.
