SALE OF MIAMI ARENA CLOSES
The Miami Sports & Exhibition Authority has closed on the sale of the Miami Arena. In his role as chairman of MSEA, Miami Mayor Manny Diaz signed the sale documents on December 14th. The sale of the Miami Arena will release up to $73 million for the renovations of Miami’s historic Orange Bowl and a potential baseball stadium to be built adjacent to the Orange Bowl.

MAGIC JOHNSON UNVEILS NEW BURGER KING IN LIBERTY CITY.   
Mayor Manny Diaz along with Commissioner Barbara Carey Schuler and Commissioner Jeffery Allen joined Earvin "Magic" Johnson as they unveiled brand new Burger King restaurant in the City of Miami.

MAYOR DIAZ ESTABLISHES HEART OF OUR PARKS ENDOWMENT FUND
On November 18th, the City of Miami Commission approved a resolution presented by Mayor Manny Diaz which will establish the Heart of Our Parks fund. This fund, managed by the Dade Community Foundation, will serve as a source of perpetual endowment funding of programming activities in the City of Miami’s parks. Miami is among a handful of cities throughout the country who have established a fund of this nature.

Mayor Manny Diaz Honored by Manhattan Institute.   
Mayor Manny Diaz was named the Urban Innovator of the Year for 2004 by the Manhattan Institute. The Manhattan Institute is a leading policy research think tank based in New York. Mayor Diaz was honored for “changing the culture of government and building a 21st century city.”

Mayor greets disabled man who has walked from Boston to Miami.
Mayor Manny Diaz, Chairman Joe Sanchez and Consul General of Peru Jorge E. Roman Morey walked along side Julio Montoya on the final portion of his incredible journey. Julio Montoya, an amputee who has a prosthetic leg, has walked the eastern coast of the United States spreading his message.

MAYOR MANNY DIAZ TEACHES GOVERNMENT TO STUDENTS AT HOLMES ELEMENTARY
Mayor Manny Diaz participated in this year’s “Teach for America Week” by teaching a classroom of students at Holmes Elementary School about the City of Miami and its departments and services. The purpose of Teach For America Week is to help children use education as a vehicle to achieve their goals.

Mayor Manny Diaz and Miami City Commission Chairman Joe Sanchez Break Ground on More Affordable Housing in East Little Havana
Today Mayor Manny Diaz and Commissioner Joe Sanchez along with others introduced the site of affordable housing in East Little Havana. Sunshine Condominiums will bring 20 new affordable housing units to that will house low income families looking to buy homes in development.

Mayor Diaz joined hundreds of volunteers from Royal Carribean Cruise Lines Ltd. as they took part in cleaning up parks, schools and youth centers in Miami.

MAYOR DIAZ TOURS SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Mayor Manny Diaz toured the City of Miami Summer Reading Program's Class at the Virrick Park Community Center in Coconut Grove. The program has been implemented in 20 parks throughout the city with 25 certified teachers.

Office Depot "Backpack Donation Day"
Mayor Manny Diaz, Commissioner Angel Gonzalez and Commissioner Joe Sanchez were on hand to celebrate “Office Depot Backpack Donation Day” as students geared up to head back to school. The Mayor, Commissioners and representatives from many South Florida organizations received free backpacks to distribute to underprivileged children.

$1.5 Billion Development Project Announced
Today Mayor Manny Diaz along with Commissioner Winton and City Manager Joe Arriola, participated in a press conference to announce that a group of a group of New York and Israeli Developers, led by Brooklyn developer Shaya Boymelgreen, would be investing $1.5 Billion into several real estate projects throughout the City of Miami. Miami now has two major billion dollar projects between Midtown Miami and Africa-Israel Group.
