MIAMI, FL -- City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and Commission Chairman Joe Sanchez were joined by Armando Fana, Miami Field Office Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, Florida House of Representatives, and the Board of Directors of CODEC, Inc., to inaugurate La Palma Apartments, an affordable rental building for seniors at 1040 SW 1st Street in Little Havana.

As residents of the recently opened building looked on, officials cut the ceremonial ribbon leading into La Palma, a $12.7 million project for persons 62 years or older featuring 90 one-bedroom/one-bathroom units. La Palma is fully leased.

“One of my proudest accomplishments has been a long-term track record of supporting funding for affordable housing in Little Havana and throughout the City of Miami,” Sanchez said.

The U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), under Section 202, provided a $11,002,500 grant towards the project. The City of Miami provided $485,191 in HOME funding and $255,808 in Affordable Housing Trust Funds (AHTF) to the project. Miami-Dade County provided $1,000,000 in funding. La Palma Apartments is owned by Peninsula Housing Development and was developed/sponsored by CODEC, Inc.
