Hosts Seniors First Expo on Hurricane Readiness and Senior Topics


(Miami, FL)— In order to help better prepare senior citizens in District 5 for the 2009 Hurricane season, City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones will present the 4th Annual Seniors First Expo on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 11:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. at Jungle Island, located at 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail.

The Seniors First Expo will provide over 500 seniors in District 5 with information needed to be better prepared during the 2009 Hurricane Season.  The program will also provide senior citizens with information on :health & wellness, affordable housing, crime & safety and jobs programs for seniors. 

“Seniors First” is an initiative of Commissioner Spence-Jones that puts senior citizens first by providing food and information on health, housing and emergency disaster services to senior citizens in District 5. 

“We want to make sure that our seniors are not only prepared for the upcoming hurricane season but are also informed of the topics that affect their lives every day,” said Commissioner Spence-Jones. 

Representatives from various organizations including: The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Paramount Mobile Health Services, City of Miami Community Development Department, City of Miami Police Department Seniors Crime & Safety Division and the South Florida Workforce will be in attendance to answer questions, address concerns and present information on the do’s and don’ts when confronted with these specific topics.
