City of Miami to Launch EMPLOY Miami to Connect Residents with Jobs


(Miami, FL)—Mayor Manny Diaz, Commission Chairman Joe Sanchez, and Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones will officially launch EMPLOY Miami, a comprehensive workforce master plan designed to connect qualified Miami residents with local employers, during a press conference on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 12:00 pm. 

EMPLOY stands for Employing Miami’s People in Local Opportunities Year-round. The City of Miami will provide funding for this initiative and is partnering with existing educational and community organizations, as well as trade unions to provide quality job training and preparation to City residents.  The key sectors that will be focused on are: construction, hospitality, retail, environmental “green job” and healthcare sectors. 

The Mayor and Commissioners will be joined by partners in this effort including the Florida Carpenter Regional Council, Florida Construction Laborers Union Local 1652, Plumber’s Union, Painter’s Union, Pipe Fitter’s Union, and Electrical Union.
