(Miami, FL)-- City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and City Commissioners honored Dorothy Quintana in celebration of Mother’s Day and her upcoming 100th birthday on Friday May 8, 2009, at 12 noon, at the De Hostos Senior Center.
Dorothy “Dottie” Quintana has been a resident of Wynwood for over 50 years and has a long history of community activism, particularly in issues concerning the elderly and the Puerto Rican community.
“Dorothy Quintana is an example for all to follow. Her tireless energy and selfless work has impacted our community and made our city a better place for all Miami residents,” said Mayor Manny Diaz. “It is with great pleasure that we honor her for Mother’s Day and celebrate her upcoming 100th birthday.”
The City of Miami is honoring Ms. Quintana by naming a new Community Center at Roberto Clemente Park after her. The Dorothy Quintana Community Center will be a 8,500-sq. ft. building that will house offices for the Parks Department and the Wynwood/Edgewater Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET), as well as a Social Hall to be used for community and family functions.
