Progress Continues on Dorothy Quintana Community Center at Roberto Clemente Park

-Gulf Building Corporation Selected to Construct the Facility-

(Miami, FL)— The City of Miami has selected Gulf Building Corporation to construct the Dorothy Quintana Community Center at Robert Clemente Park, bringing the center another step closer to coming to fruition. The project was awarded to the company as a result of a competitive formal bid process. The City is working with the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce to provide job opportunities to residents in the surrounding community.

“This administration continues to work diligently to give the Wynwood neighborhood the community center it deserves,” said City Manager Pete Hernandez. “This project will not only provide a place for children and families to gather once it is completed, but will also provide much-needed jobs during the construction phase.”

Gulf Building Corp, founded in 1990, specializes in general contracting, construction management, and architectural design. Gulf’s diverse construction portfolio includes projects in the hotel, educational, recreational, and governmental industries. Miramar Regional Multi Service Center & Fire Station no.19, Ansin Sports Complex, and the Immokalee Administration Building are just a few of the successful projects completed by Gulf.

The Dorothy Quintana Community Center at Roberto Clemente Park, designed by Astorino, Inc., will consist of a new building of approx. 8,500 sq. ft. The building will include a 1,700 sq ft Social Hall, a divisible space to be used for community and family functions, a child play area, an Exhibit Gallery integrated into the main reception area, and recreational/tutorial spaces such as a computer lab, arts & crafts room, homework room, and fitness room.

The new building will also provide public restrooms, covered terraces, and a playground area to serve the neighborhood activities and summer programs.  In addition, the building will house attendant spaces for storage, maintenance, meters and pump, as well as the staff offices for the Parks Department and the Wynwood/Edgewater Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET). Both will share common spaces such as Conference Room, Break Room, Restrooms and Copy Room.

Construction of the new community center will begin within a month, with a groundbreaking ceremony taking place within that time frame to kick-off work on the project. Cost of construction for the new center has been estimated at $1.8 million with funding provided by Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond Dollars.

For more information about subcontracting and labor opportunities, please contact the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce at (305)571-8006.
