Waitlist Reopens for Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Long Term Rental Assistance (LTRA) Program


-Applications available April 2nd through April 30th-

Miami, FL (March 16, 2009) – The City of Miami Waitlist for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Long Term Rental Assistance (LTRA) Program is reopening and will accept applications from Thursday, April 2, 2009 through Thursday, April 30, 2009. 

The HOPWA LTRA program provides long-term rental assistance to qualifying low-income persons and/or families (as defined by U.S. HUD; see income chart below) who have an AIDS medical diagnosis, live in Miami-Dade County and meet the documentation requirements of citizenship or immigration status, based on funding availability. The program presently assists approximately 1,100 clients who reside throughout Miami-Dade County, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (U.S. HUD).

Waitlist applications will be available from April 2nd – April 30th at the locations noted below:

• On the web at www.miamigov/com/communitydevelopment/pages/applicationsforms  
• The Department of Community Development, 444 SW 2 Ave., 2nd Floor
• Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive
• The City of Miami’s 13 Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) offices
• Ryan White agencies throughout Miami-Dade County
• HOPWA service agencies throughout Miami-Dade County
• Miami-Dade County’s Community Action Agencies
NOTE: Call 311 should you need specific addresses to the sites noted above.

In order to be considered for the Waitlist, applicants must mail a package postmarked by the deadline, Thursday, April 30, 2009, including (1) the completed HOPWA LTRA 2009 Waitlist Application form (H16 (1/09)) and (2) a Medical Verification of AIDS Diagnosis form, completed and signed by a physician (H40(1/09)). If either of these documents is missing from the application package, it will be considered incomplete and will be denied. Application packages must be mailed to Attn: City of Miami HOPWA Rental Assistance, c/o Apple Tree Perspectives, Inc., P.O. Box #380937, Miami, FL 33238. All applications are reviewed by an independent agency for eligibility and then randomly selected via lottery for assignment on the Waitlist.   

Applicants must: be low-income residents of Miami-Dade County; meet the documentation requirements of citizenship or immigration status; and, have received an AIDS diagnosis.
