No Garbage Pick Up on December 25th for City of Miami Residents


(Miami, Florida)—In observance of the Christmas holiday, city of Miami residents are advised there will be NO garbage, trash or recycling pick-up on Thursday, December 25th, 2008. The Solid Waste Department will be closed and will resume normal operations on Friday, December 26th.  City of Miami residents should hold their trash/garbage/recycling until the next scheduled pick-up day. Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to call 311.

Normal service shall resume on Friday, December 26th, 2008.

The mini-dump will also be closed on Thursday, December 25th, 2008 and will resume its regular schedule on Friday following the respective holiday.  The Solid Waste Department will follow its normal pick-up schedules for New Year’s holiday on Thursday, January 1st, 2009.

Solid Waste Department is encouraging its residents to place their Christmas trees separate from their regular trash.  The Solid Waste Department will pick up the trees and convert it into mulch, which will be recycled and used around city parks and landscapes. Trees will be picked up during the regular trash day from January 5th through February 5th, 2009. After that day, citizens are asked to bring them to the city’s mini dump, located at 1290 NW 20th Street. 

Residents are reminded to:

•  Separate vegetation from other trash and bulky items to expedite the garbage pick up effort. 

•  Recycled items should be placed in the recyclable container in an accessible location. Please do not park in front of the garbage or place any other items around it.
