City of Miami to Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony to Resurrect a Pocket Park
in Downtown

-Construction Begins on Paul S. Walker Park-

(Miami, FL.)—City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, City Commission and Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Chairman Joe Sanchez, and Commissioner Marc Sarnoff will join DDA Board members and downtown merchants for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Paul S. Walker Mini-Park on Tuesday, December 2, at 11 am, at the site of the park, 46 W Flagler Street.

Recognizing the need for more park space within downtown and the goal of Miami’s Parks Master Plan to provide park space within a quarter-mile of every resident, the City and the DDA agreed to work together to reconstruct the Paul S. Walker Park.

The scope of the project includes demolition of existing restaurant facility, as well as the creation of a waterfall and fountain, walkways, landscaping with ornamental and shade trees, seating-eating areas, art expo, a musician stage, lighting, drainage, signage and a designer gate. The Mini-Park will have an area of approximately 4200 SQ.FT. and will serve primarily the downtown office crowd and tourists during daytime hours.

The cost for the project is $284,993, with funds coming from the DDA & Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond.
