Mayor Manny Diaz and City Commissioners to Commemorate World AIDS Day


-A Candlelight Memorial and Tree Lighting Ceremony
marks 20th Anniversary-

(Miami, Florida)- City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, joined by the City Commission, invites the community to commemorate World AIDS Day on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 5:00 p.m., at Miami Riverside Center, 444 SW 2nd Avenue, Miami.  The day will be observed with a candlelight memorial and tree lighting ceremony.

The first World AIDS Day was declared by the World Health Organization and the United Nations General Assembly in 1988, with the purpose to raise awareness about AIDS in the world.  On this day, 20 years later, World AIDS Day is celebrated to mark the commitment to keep the promise to stop spreading AIDS worldwide.

World AIDS Day Candlelight Memorial and Tree Lighting Ceremony is sponsored by City of Miami Office of the Mayor, City of Miami Commission, Miami-Dade County Health Department and Walgreens, Co.-Walgreens Pharmacy.
