City of Miami is #3 Digital City in the Nation, #1 in the State
|
(Miami, FL)—The City of Miami has been ranked the number three digital city in the nation by the Center for Digital Government, topping several big cities in America including Tucson, Arizona, and Houston, Texas. The Digital Cities Survey also placed Miami at number one in the State of Florida. These rankings are the result of an annual effort by the Center of Digital Government, in conjunction with the National League of Cities, to examine how cities use technology to create a seamless environment between local government and constituents.
“Five years ago, Miami was not even on the charts,” said Miami Mayor Manny Diaz. “The investment made by this Commission and administration towards improving the city’s technology has resulted in this distinguished title and most importantly has improved service to our residents.”
Among the large, multi-year technology projects implemented in recent years that have improved Miami’s services are the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Land Management, Police and Fire 911, and 311 Citizen Service.
“This accomplishment has been made possible because of the collaboration of all city departments, which have recognized the importance of improving business processes with technology, “said Chief Information Officer Peter Korinis.
Other numerous smaller projects have also contributed to the city’s technological improvements including: the Geographic Information System (GIS), Elevate Miami initiative to bridge the digital divide; and the video streaming and archiving of City Commission meetings on the web.
