City of Miami to Plant Trees in Flagami, Saturday, April 12th
|
(Miami, Florida) – Commissioner Tomás Regalado joins City staff and TREEmendous Miami volunteers for a community tree planting in the Flagami area this Saturday, April 12th starting at 9:00 a.m. (5135 NW 7 Street). During the event, over 80 street trees will be planted in the Flagami neighborhood. The Flagami tree planting is one of many funded under the City of Miami’s GreenMiami campaign to restore the City’s tree canopy to 30% by 2017. Residents are invited attend.
Five community-based organizations, TREEmendous Miami, Roots in the City, Operation Green Leaves, Citizens for a Better South Florida and Tree Man Trust, are receiving funding in 2008 to plant and maintain over 532 trees throughout the City.

Mayor Manny Diaz is leading a proactive and ambitious environmental program in the City of Miami. To accomplish this goal, Mayor Diaz launched the first ever Citywide Tree Master Plan. He also created the City of Miami Green Commission and the Miami Office of Sustainable Initiatives (MSI) to coordinate these and all other environmental programs.
