Commissioner Marc D. Sarnoff Invites Community to a Special Screening of Who Killed the Electric Car?

(Miami, Florida)-City of Miami District 2 Commissioner Marc D. Sarnoff will host a special screening of the award-winning documentary film Who Killed the Electric Car? and demonstration of electric vehicles on Friday, April 11, 2008 beginning at 5:15 p.m. at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive, Miami, Florida.  The screening is free and the community is welcome to attend. Seating is limited.

Prior to the screening, from 5:15 – 6:45 p.m., the Florida Electric Auto Association will present a display of electric vehicles in the parking lot of City Hall. Immediately following the film, from 8:30-9:00 p.m., special guest and electric vehicle activist Chelsea Sexton (featured in Who Killed the Electric Car?) will be conducting a Q & A session for the audience.

Who Killed the Electric Car? chronicles the life and mysterious death of the GM EV1, examining its cultural and economic ripple effect and how they reverberated through the halls of government and big business. The film screening is part of Commissioner Sarnoff’s initiative to show educational and thought-provoking movies to city residents, at no cost to them, inside City Hall Commission Chambers, demonstrating City Hall to be a true public forum.

The film screening takes place the day before Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden holds the 2008 Fairchild Challenge Research Project Showcase, an event at which students from local high schools county-wide will demonstrate and explain their innovative research projects on various environmental topics. Demonstrations by the Florida Electric Auto Association and a presentation by electric vehicle activist Chelsea Sexton are also scheduled for Saturday’s program. The Research Project Showcase will take place Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, located at 10901 Old Cutler Road in Coral Gables. This event is free and open to the public.
