Julie O. Bru Appointed by City of Miami Commission as City Attorney

Julie O. Bru
(Miami, Florida)- The City of Miami Commission appointed Julie O. Bru as the City Attorney during its March 13, 2008, Commission meeting. Ms. Bru will preside for the first time as the City Attorney at the next Commission meeting on Thursday, March 27, 2008.
Ms. Bru brings to the position extensive experience, having practiced law for over 18 years, most of which has been spent with the City of Miami. Most recently, Ms. Bru was Deputy City Attorney, overseeing the management and administration of the Office of the City Attorney, comprised of 24 professional attorneys and 28 administrative and support staff. Ms. Bru has litigated in areas of tort, civil rights, labor and employment. Among notable work she has done, Ms. Bru represented the City during its acquisition of the 200,000-square-foot Miami Riverside Center and headed the legal team representing the City’s recovery task force in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.
“Julie Bru has consistently shown professionalism and dedication throughout her time here at the City,” said Commission Chairman Joe Sanchez. “I am confident that with her comprehensive knowledge of how our city works and high regard for our role as public servants, she will successfully represent Miami in any legal matters that we may be confronted with.”
Ms. Bru is the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Book Award, Ethics and Professional Responsibility. She received her Juris Doctorate from Stetson University and her Bachelor’s cum laude from University of South Florida.
