City of Miami, Mayor’s Office, City Commissioners to Commemorate World AIDS Day, Saturday, December 1, 2007


-A Candlelight Memorial and Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held at Bayfront Marketplace Friendship Torch-

(Miami, Florida)- City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, joined by the City Commission, Miami-Dade County Health Department and Walgreens, Co., invite the community to commemorate World AIDS Day on Saturday, December 1, 2007 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Bayfront Marketplace’s Friendship Torch, 401 Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami.  The day will be observed with a candlelight memorial and tree lighting ceremony. 

The First World AIDS Day was declared by the World Health Organization and the United Nations General Assembly in 1988, with the purpose to raise awareness about AIDS in the world.  Today, almost 20 years later, World AIDS Day is celebrated to mark the commitment to keep the promise to stop spreading AIDS worldwide.

World AIDS Day Candlelight Memorials and Tree Lighting Ceremony is sponsored by City of Miami Mayor’s Office, City Commission, Miami-Dade County Health Department and Walgreens, Co.-Walgreens Pharmacy.
