“Today’s vote does not diminish my confidence in Chief Timoney and Chief Fernandez.

“Their record of reforms and crime fighting have made the City of Miami Police Department a national model for policing.

“It is my understanding that calling for these votes is common practice for unions as they have done in other major cities such as Seattle, New York, Boston and Houston.

“I have always supported our police officers and their sworn mission to serve and protect through professional law enforcement.  I am unwavering in this support and ask that we move forward toward this mission.”
