(Miami, Florida)—City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, City Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones, District 5, City Manager Pete Hernandez, city administrators, business owners and area neighbors joined together for a groundbreaking ceremony today for the Buena Vista East Historic District Road Improvement Project, Phase I, at the intersection of NE 42nd Street and NE 2nd Avenue, in the heart of Miami’s Design District.

The scope of the project consists of road milling and resurfacing, replacement of sidewalks, ADA ramps, improvement of drainage, curb and gutter installation and limited landscaping.  The work will commence on NE 42nd and 43rd Streets between North Miami Avenue and NE 2nd Avenue.

The total cost of the Phase I of the project is estimated at $1,019,111, with funding provided through several sources i.e. contribution from the General Fund, Local Option Gas Tax, and Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond.  The estimated time of completion is October, 2007.
