This division principally addresses employment related concerns on both an individual employee basis and collectively in a union setting. This division is responsible for collective bargaining negotiations on behalf of management, for representing the administration in grievances and arbitrations that arise from union contracts, and for advising the administration on union contract related matters.

      The lawyers in this division also represent the City in lawsuits filed by current or former employees regarding employment related issues, and also represent the administration in civil service proceedings and arbitrations involving employee disciplinary matters.

    This division also litigates workers’ compensation cases. The workers’ compensation attorneys, in conjunction with Risk Management, strive to effectuate the purpose of the State of Florida’s workers’ compensation law by ensuring that bona fide claims are handled expeditiously, and by defending the City against claims that are not meritorious.
