The Aviation Center on
Watson Island provides a dual service that includes the
Miami Heliport and the Miami Seaplane Base. The Miami
Heliport is currently in the process of being relocated
adjacent to the property occupied by Chalk’s Miami
Seaplane Base. The Seaplane base is operated by Chalk's
Ocean Airways and uses the Port of Miami's deep-water
channel and turning basin for aircraft operations and
has use of approximately 15,000 feet of water runway in
a NE/SW configuration. The heliport will operate as a
public heliport.
The Miami Heliport will be an attended public facility
that will serve rotor aircraft. The future intent of
this facility will be to provide corporate and tourism
services. The City of Miami has partnered with Miami
Sports and Exhibition Authority to develop an aviation
center that will house both the heliport and the
seaplane base. The seaplane base currently exits
primarily to support Chalk's operation, with flights to
destinations in the Caribbean and Ft. Lauderdale.
