FY 2005 Notable Accomplishments
In order to broaden revenue opportunities, the
Department hosted the Strictly Sail venue of the Miami
International Boat Show at Miamarina, collecting over
$115,000 in transient dockage for the event and
showcasing the facility to over 150,000 visitors during
the six day event.
Additionally, the Orange Bowl Stadium hosted another
successful nationally televised Miami Hurricanes
football season, hosting 6 games reaching gross revenues
of more than $2.4 million dollars. Also, for the 5th
time, the facility hosted the world renowned Gold Cup
soccer tournament in July, bringing more than $100,000
of revenue to the City of Miami. The Orange Bowl hosted
several community events such as the 2005 City of Miami
Job Fair, Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Wilma’s
community outreach, the 2004 City of Miami Thanksgiving
Turkey Give-A-Way. The Orange Bowl was also very proud
to partner with the Internal Revenue Service to serve as
one of the sites for the 2004 Community Income Tax
Preparation Campaign, thus providing a great service at
no charge to the community.
Public Facilities enhanced grant opportunities and
management by securing a $30,000 grant for Dinner Key
Marina and initiated the permitting process to replace
the Seminole Public Dinghy Dock, which will provide
improved boater safety and access to and from our
waters. The marina also received $30,000 in grant
funding for the recently completed installation of three
new lighted channel marker stations in the John Brennan
Channel.
