Welcome to the City of Miami
Office of the City Attorney

This Office serves the Mayor, City Commission, City Manager, City Clerk, and City Departments and Boards as they establish new legislation and administer policies and programs to benefit Miami residents.  This service takes many forms, from helping the community through effective ordinance preparation and enforcement, to providing city departments with legal advice in matters such as complex real estate and financial transactions, to representing the City’s interests in litigation.

By working closely with the City’s elected and appointed officials, we participate in programs and services which focus on making communities safe and attractive, providing decent and good paying jobs, affordable housing and encouraging industries such as international finance, manufacturing, conventions and tourism to thrive.  The Office of the City Attorney is committed to those goals.

The Office of the City Attorney employs more than fifty employees, including lawyers, paralegals and litigation assistants.  The staff has unparalleled opportunities to take a leadership role in promoting honesty and integrity to the City and to assume responsibility for important cases, to learn a variety of legal areas, and to play a role in often high profile issues that have an impact on public policy.

The Office of the City Attorney consists of four (4) divisions; Land Use & Worker's Comp; General Government; Legislation, Labor & Police Legal Advisor; and Litigation.
