Land Use & Worker's Comp Division

This division handles all areas of practice in the City Attorney's Office dealing with, or otherwise related to, realty and its use. The attorneys are specialists in this area of the law and routinely handle a wide spectrum of transactions and issues on the city's behalf - from monitoring the step-by-step progress of a multi-million public or private dollar project, to litigating trial and appellate land use matters, to negotiating, revising or drafting covenants to solve neighborhood property disputes. Daily, queries are answered and legal solutions are offered to client departments, boards/committees, and the Mayor and City Commission covering an encyclopedia of issues relative to, inter alia, the Miami Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan, the Zoning Ordinance, South Florida Building Code, Miami City Code, Code Enforcement, real property acquisitions and disposition, permitting, impact fees, tax increment financing, Public Works matters, use of public rights-of-way, covenants, eminent domain, and the interpretation of federal, state, county and municipal laws and regulations.

This division also litigates workers' compensation cases. The Workers' Compensation attorneys, in conjunction with Risk Management, strive to effectuate the purpose of the State of Florida's Workers' Compensation Law by ensuring that bona fide claims are handled expeditiously, and by defending the city against claims that are not meritorious.
