Over 400,000 people
die each year from
sudden cardiac
arrest. Most cardiac
arrests are due to
an abnormal heart
rhythm called
Ventricular
Fibrillation (VF).
Left untreated,
death follows within
minutes of sudden
cardiac arrest.
Defibrillation is
the only known
therapy for VF. AEDs
(Automated External
Defibrillators) are
now being used in
the public setting
by non-medically
trained citizens to
save lives. For
every minute that
someone remains in
VF their chance of
survival decreases
10% - but with your
help, we can make a
difference!
Miami Fire-Rescue is
in a unique position
to educate Miami
citizens and
businesses about the
benefits of having
AED's in public
places such as
businesses, homes,
and schools. We are
also available to
assist with AED
training, placement,
and program
management. We have
already begun this
process in numerous
City-owned
buildings.
